Principles Of Extracting Plant Protein From Soybeans, Rapeseeds, Or Lupins
Before extracting protein, the fat or oil contained in oil plants has been separated. The first step is extraction, which is a multi-stage process to extract oilseed plant protein from filter cakes or rapeseed, lupin, or soybean powders. The next step is coagulation, where the protein settles and separates in the solution. Depending on different requirements, additional washing steps can increase the precipitated protein content, allowing for the production of concentrated protein, or even high-purity isolated proteins, such as pea isolated protein.
The produced protein has the highest purity and excellent functionality, and can be directly sent to the spray drying process. To achieve the best protein yield, additional non-functional proteins can be recovered through heat precipitation methods. When necessary, residual fibers are washed, then mechanically dehydrated using SENZ belt press, and finally dried.

Lupin processing places high demands on both people and machines. After cooperating with SENZ, Prolupin GmbH is able to use lupin protein as a food ingredient. First, ground and deoiled lupin flakes are mixed, then the fiber and protein are separated using the SENZ horizontal decanter centrifuge. Another horizontal decanter centrifuge separates the coagulated lupin protein from the insoluble fiber. The remaining plant-based lupin protein undergoes cleaning and processing in a SENZ horizontal decanter centrifuge.
